All of the major search
engines have moved away from dependence on "submission-driven"
indexing and page ranking processes. Although most search engines and directories
still accept web page submissions, they will not favor or place extra ranking
weight on sites that proactively submit their pages. Most major search engines
prefer to use their own "discovery" process and index web pages
by crawling around the web with their spiders.
They do a pretty good
job of discovering new websites, so you may not have to submit to them .
We have three new websites
that have ALL been discovered without submitting them to Google, Alta Vista,
Fast & Ask Jeeves. We're getting visited on regular schedules now by each.
Today, website submission
seems to give a better payback when you are submitting your site to hundreds
(or even thousands) of small web directories and search engines. You can
get a lot of traffic from these sites.
You just need to pick
a good, trustworthy search engine ranking consultant (or good software package)
that will submit your sites to legitimate search engines & directories.
Be careful, there are scammers out there that may post your URL's to illegal
FFA's (Free-for-All links pages) and spam sites. You could end up with a
lot more spam in your email box than traffic to your website.
Now, amid all the hype,
products and overblown information about web page submission, you may have
come across offers from SEO's (Search Engine Optimization specialists) that
claim hand submission or manual submission is best.
Here's our take on
this:
There is absolutely
NO clear evidence that demonstrates hand submissions work better than software
automated submissions. Our opinion about hand-submission is that it has
been hyped up by SEO companies as a competitive differentiator and is primarily
used as a selling point.
Think about it...Doesn't
"hand-submission" sound better than "automated submission."
It gives the client the sense that they're getting a customized, more focused
effort and more effective submission results. When given a choice, most
clients will choose hand-submission because it sounds better, not because
the results are any better.
It's important to note
that most web page submission software emulates a browser, so the search
engines cannot differentiate between hand submissions (from your browser) and automated submissions.
