Kevin Trudeau is a longtime
TV marketing guru who has sold all kinds of products and services covering
a broad spectrum of categories. He's more widely known for his 30 minute
infomercials pitching health related products like Coral Calcium, self-help
products like Mega Memory as well as numerous business opportunities and
MLM's. My first exposure to Kevin's late night pitches was for the first
Mega Memory product and Howard Berg's Speed Reading Course.
Kevin Trudeau has been
under the microsope of the FTC for years. In fact when you do a Google search
on "Kevin Trudeau", the first two search results are pages from
the FTC's website.

Regarding Coral Calcium,
Kevin Trudeau's most recent infomercial, I decided to check things out for
myself and did some investigating. Since I'm a former fitness trainer and
competitive natural bodybuilder, I know quite a bit about nutrition and
its effects on the human body. So I was a bit skeptical of the coral calcium
infomercial. After doing some digging in my nutrition books, some online
research and after speaking with the owner of my favorite vitamin store
(she holds a PhD in biochemistry!), here's the bottom line about coral calcium:
The immune boosting
claims about bathing your body's cells in calcium and trace minerals are
backed by some real medical research. Medical studies have shown that having
an alkaline (versus "acidic") body chemistry does in fact boost
the body's immune response. A strong immune response is clearly linked with
resisting disease. Body alkalinity can be achieved from consuming significant
amounts of calcium and trace minerals.
Here's the catch:
Coral calcium is nothing
more than plain old calcium carbonate with naturally ocurring trace minerals
that are healthy for the human body. Calcium carbonate is found in antacids
for example. But, the infomercial for coral calcium would lead you to believe
that their product from the coral reefs along the coast of Japan is the
perfect and best source of calcium carbonate and trace minerals needed for
optimal human health. This is not true. There are plenty of good calcium
carbonate and trace mineral supplements at your local vitamin store. These
off-the-shelf products will give you the SAME benefits as the coral calcium
from Japan.
So, you can definitely
benefit from the healthy effects of calcium carbonate and other minerals
without the need for coral calcium specifically.
